Aave Labs Acquires Avon to Develop Fixed-Rate Lending
Avon’s team and technology are joining Aave Labs, strengthening its work on fixed-rate borrowing and expanding the range of potential lending products.

Aave Labs announced the acquisition of Avon’s team and technology on November 6, strengthening its work on fixed-rate lending. The deal could help expand borrowing options in DeFi, where predictable interest costs can matter as much as the rate available when a loan begins.
The acquisition includes Avon’s fixed-rate and floating-rate lending protocols and its onchain order book. Avon specialists are joining Aave Labs across engineering and business development, continuing their work within the Aave ecosystem. The announcement does not disclose the purchase price.
For borrowers, a fixed rate offers a way to estimate interest expenses over an agreed period. A floating rate changes with market conditions, making future payments harder to forecast. That uncertainty becomes particularly relevant when borrowed funds support a longer strategy whose returns arrive gradually.
Predictable terms can also appeal to capital providers seeking to match expected income with future obligations. However, the practical outcome depends on product design, including maturity, liquidity, collateral requirements and exit rules. A fixed interest rate alone does not explain the full economics of a position.
For DeFi, this direction could broaden how users compare lending opportunities. Alongside the headline percentage, borrowers would consider how long that percentage applies. Businesses could potentially incorporate borrowing costs into budgets with greater confidence, provided the surrounding terms support their needs.
Fixed rates still leave other risks in place. Collateral can face liquidation, smart contracts can contain vulnerabilities, and liquidity can become constrained. Fees and early repayment restrictions also affect the usefulness of any financing arrangement. Those details require separate assessment.
The acquisition announcement does not establish that a finished product is available. It provides no launch date, supported asset list or final borrowing terms for new fixed-rate markets.
The next milestone is therefore concrete product specifications. These will show how Avon’s technology translates into accessible borrowing choices and predictable financing costs across Aave.
